When the oceans change,
we change with them.
Learning to Adapt
Changing Oceans, a project of the Ecology Action Centre, is an exploration of changes happening in the oceans and in coastal communities of the Maritimes and Mi'kma'ki, from the highly visible changing migration of whales to less obvious ripple effects, like fish processors struggling to qualify for employment insurance despite increasingly inconsistent working hours.
Change is a natural state, but the rate of change is accelerating, forcing constant adaptation. This stresses wildlife and puts our economy and communities at risk. Our fisheries management systems weren't designed for this state of rapid change. Changing Oceans is an effort to collect stories from those who best know the North Atlantic, to better understand how climate change is affecting their lives and livelihoods, and begin an exploration of possible ways forward.
